KENYA: Local pilot and four Americans die in helicopter crash

The United States embassy in Nairobi has confirmed the death of four Americans and Kenyan pilot following a helicopter crash at a national park in northwest Kenya after taking off from a remote island in Lake Turkana.

Gilbert Kibe, director general of Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) disclosed that the wreckage was found on Monday morning by rescuers.

In a statement, he said:

“Shortly after take-off, unfortunately, one of the helicopters, a Bell 505, registration 5YKDL, lost contact and crashed on the island.”

Meanwhile, the crash occurred less than a month after three Americans out of five lost their lives in a plane crash in the western part of Kenya.
