Leicester boss Shakespeare says there’s been no bid for Mahrez

Leicester City Manager, Craig Shakespeare says the club is yet to receive any offer for Riyad Mahrez, despite the winger’s intention to leave this summer.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year had in May announced his readiness to leave the former English champions, stating that he has “informed the club that I feel now is the time for me to move on.”

The 26-year old has been linked with a move to Arsenal and recently AS Roma, but Shakespeare, speaking to the media on Tuesday, said the club have not been contacted by the Italian side.

“Riyad stated his position very clearly,” said Shakespeare at a media conference in Hong Kong.

“Mine is really simple: while he is here and while we have had no bids – and we haven’t had any bids, it’s all been speculation – he has to be committed to the football club.

“And I have to say, in the two weeks he’s been back he’s been totally committed and really trained well.

“Outgoings are inevitable at any football club but until there’s a bid for your player there’s no decision to be made,” he added.

Leicester, one of four English top flight teams in Hong Kong this week to play in the Premier League Asia Trophy, will take on West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.
