Mings handed five-match ban for stamp on Ibrahimovic

AFC Bournemouth’s ace, Tyrone Mings, who was also involved in the ugly physical challenge that characterized Saturday’s Premier League tie between Manchester United and Bournemouth, has been banned for five matches on Wednesday.

The defender was caught on video stamping on Ibrahimovic’s head, while the United star retaliated moments later with an elbow during an aerial contest.

Unlike Ibrahimovic who accepted his’ on Tuesday, Mings did contest his own violent conduct charge and has now been given a longer ban.

“AFC Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings will serve a five-match suspension, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today,” the FA tweeted on Wednesday.

“Mings was charged with violent conduct in relation to an incident in or around the 44th minute of the game against Manchester United.”

Ibrahimovic was also charged by the Football Association after he was caught on video elbowing Tyronne Mings in retaliation to an earlier stamp on his head by the defender during the match that ended 1-1 at Old Trafford.

It was the Ibrahimovic’s incident which was witnessed by Mings’ team-mate, Andrew Surman, that led to the sending off of the midfielder, who pushed the Swedish striker to the ground, and consequently shown a yellow card, which the Referee realised was his second after a long delay, and eventually pulled out his red card.

A statement on the FA’s website on Tuesday read: “Zlatan Ibrahimovic will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted an FA charge of violent conduct and accepted the standard penalty.”
