Amid rape scandal, COZA pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo, steps down

Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) has denied rape accusations brought against him by Busola Dakolo, photographer and wife of popular Nigerian musician, Timi Dakolo.

Busola had in an explosive interview accused the pastor of abusing her at the age of 16. She recounted how Pastor Fatoyinbo allegedly raped her in her home while her mother and other siblings were away on a trip.

However, Fatoyinbo in a public statement issued on Friday, debunked the allegation, describing it as fallacious and non-existent. He further stated that he never had private interactions with Busola beyond his pastoral duties.

Meanwhile several Nigerian celebrities, including Toke Makinwa, Banky W, Simi, Uche Jumbo and Don Jazzy have shown their support to Busola since the interview went viral.

Don Jazzy in a post on Instagram wrote, “Thank you for being a voice for the many women that don’t have the courage to speak out yet. It is important we let our mothers, sisters, daughters know that you cannot be bullied for speaking the truth.”

Uche Jumbo also replied some Nigerians who questioned the timing of Busola’s revelations, claiming she should have come out a long time ago.

The actress wrote: “The healing process! She can speak out anytime she chooses, whatever time or year that she feels comfortable to speak, so face the real ” Rape “issue… Stop asking rape victims why it took them years to speak. PS. A woman can be a baby mama, a working girl, a sex worker whatever label you want to call her, at the end of the day RAPE is RAPE make no mistake about that,” she wrote.

However, former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, in a thread of tweets defended Pator Fatoyinbo. Omokri said that although he never liked the COZA pastor, he is mature enough to divorce emotions and be led by logic.

“I am an advocate of morality. For years, I publicly preach against premarital and extramarital sex. I pastored a congregation in Abuja for years. I will NEVER, EVER, support RAPE. But Satan is going about like a roaring lion seeking whom to consume!

“Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo is SLEEK. Too sleek for my liking. What type of sleek man will rape an underaged girl in HER PARENTS HOUSE? While HER SIBLINGS are AT HOME. And then leave her to go get a drink from his car. Is this mass HYPNOSIS?

“Do we Black African of the Nigerian variety think at all? Do we only exist in the soulish realm? I have a Masters in Law from England. The story CANNOT stand up in court. The story CANNOT stand up in the light of cross-examination.”
