Nigerian Table Tennis superstar, Aruna Quadri was beaten 4-0 by Japanese Jun Mizutani in the knockout stage of the 2017 ITTF Men’s World Cup in Belgium on Saturday.

Mizutani, who won the 2010 and 2014 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals and won two medals at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, thumped Quadri 11-6, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Quadri had made it thus far after finishing second in the group stage, with a 4-2 win over America’s Kanak Jha and a 4-3 loss to Korea’s Lee Sangsu on Friday.

As it stands, there is no African player in the last eight, as the continent’s other representative, Omar Assar also crashed out in the round of 16 earlier on Saturday.

He was defeated 5-1 (11-5, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4) by defending champion and number one seed, Ma Long of China.

The quarterfinal matches will be played later on Saturday, and the tournament comes to a close on Sunday.
