An upsurge of rape cases in Nigeria has inevitably forced various non-governmental organizations, professional bodies, and parents alike to seek ways out of the ugly trend.

More worrisome is the trauma that victims of rape incidents are made to go through with growing calls for the government to change its policies on offenders as victims are often left with psychological trauma, suicidal tendencies, depression, and ultimately left with less self-esteem to face society.

It is in the light of this that, QRTV in conjunction with Northern Light Media recently released a movie titled: “Don’t Beg Now” in a bid to address the public issue about how the justice system somewhat shields rape offenders

The short movie starring Kuchi Chris and Anthony Umeh, showcases the psychological struggles, and the years of regret that victims are subjected in a lawless society.

Speaking with Ripples Nigeria, the CEO of QRTV, Queen Rasheed, said the movie is a form of advocacy which adds to the number of other societal struggle on same issue.

She said: “Someone has to do it for the people, Nigeria has a lot of rape cases, why punish the victim? Why not punish the offender?”

In her remarks, Rola, a Nigerian-American movie director/producer, said the focus of the movie was on feminine issues which are a societal project, adding that “people don’t understand the trauma, and at the same time the justice systems in a country like Nigeria.”
