Saraki swears in Senator Adeleke

Senate President Bukola Saraki on Wednesday swore in Ademola Adeleke, who received his certificate of return at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday as the duly returned winner of Saturday’s Osun West senatorial bye-election.

Saraki, who said he was filled with emotions swearing in the brother of Late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke as the Senator to represent Osun West, however regretted that Senator Ademola Adeleke is not coming in as an All Progressives Congress (APC) member.

Saraki who reacted to the swearing in event on his twitter handle said, “I am sure that my dear and departed colleague will be happy and filled with joy today.”

He continued, “I was filled with emotions today as I swore in the brother of Late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke as the Senator representing Osun West. My only sadness is that Senator Ademola Adeleke is not coming in as an APC member.”

Adeleke took his oath of office as a senator on the floor of the Senate as administered by the Senate President. Following the administering of Adeleke’s oath of office by Saraki, Senate approved the votes and proceedings of the previous day’s business.

Adeleke’s addition to the ranks of PDP senators has increased their number to 42, with the APC retaining their majority of 66 senators, while the Anambra Central seat still remains vacant after the nullification of Uche Ekwunife’s election.
Senator Isiaka Adeleke had on Saturday defeated the Osun State Governor Aregbesola’s anointed candidate of the APC, Mudashiru Hussein, in nine out of the 10 local government areas in Osun West senatorial district.

The emergence of Adeleke who is a younger brother to the late occupant of the seat, Isiaka Adeleke, sparked conversations across the political scene, with many interpreting the resounding victory as evidence of shifting fortunes in favour of the PDP in Osun State, and a sign of a growing dissatisfaction with the APC in Osun and beyond.
