UK PM May survives no-confidence vote

A day after members of parliament dealt a crushing blow to the Brexit plan she negotiated with the European Union (EU), UK Prime Minister Theresa May survived a no-confidence vote.

Reports say May was spared after parliament members voted 325 to 306 against the motion called by opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who called on May to resign earlier.

“I am pleased that this House has expressed its confidence in this government tonight,” May said. “My government will continue its work to increase our prosperity, guarantee our security and to strengthen our union.”

May was expected to survive the vote, as rebels within her own party who rejected her signature policy said they will support her to prevent what would almost certainly lead to a new general election.
