US Senate set to impose new sanctions on Saudi over Khashoggi's assassination

The US Senate is currently mulling sanctions against Saudi Arabia over the gruesome murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

That much information was revealed by Senator Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

According to Corker, Senate could vote before the end of the year on a resolution seeking to cut off all assistance to Saudi Arabia for the incident involving Khashoggi and the war in Yemen.

“Senators are looking for some way to show Saudi Arabia the disdain they have for what has happened with the journalist, but also concerns about the way Yemen has gone,” said Corker.

The comments by Corker is coming hours after Saudi Arabia was again indicted in the killing of Khashoggi after another report by the New York Times revealed that a member of the assassination squad phoned a superior shortly after the pen pusher was assassinated.

According to the report by the New York Times, a member of the kill team phoned Saudi prince’s aide shortly after Khashoggi was murdered saying “tell your boss” their mission had been accomplished.
