The Zamfara State government has impounded 101 vehicles and prosecuted their drivers for flouting the border closure order declared in the state.

The prosecuted transporters were reportedly intercepted by a COVID-19 lockdown order enforcement committee headed by the state Commissioner of Police Usman Nagoggo.

“They were found guilty by mobile courts sitting at the borders and heavily fined, “Nagoggo said.

This development came days after the Emir of Kaura-Namoda in Zamfara State, Mohammed Ahmad Asha, joined his ancestors.

The monarch died while awaiting the result of his COVID-19 test.

Asha’s death came exactly 24-hours after the Emir of Rano, Dr. Tafida Abubakar Ila II, died after a brief illness.

His younger brother, the Dan Jekan Kaura Namoda, Abdulkarim Ahmad Asha, who disclosed this to journalists, said the 71-year-old monarch had a long battle with diabetes and hypertension.

According to him, the late Emir spent four days in his palace, responding to treatment before the relapse.
