With their quarter-final qualification sealed, Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane hailed his team for a ‘perfect match’ against Paris Saint-Germain after they won the French club 2-1 in Paris.
Leading 3-1 from the first leg, Real took the challenge to their hosts and held on to a goalless first-half finish, before goals by Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro made of no effect Edinson Cavani’s.
Real are thus in the quarterfinals of the elite competition for an eight successive season, and are on course for a third Champions League title in a row.
“What I liked most? Our approach went well,” the French coach said after the game.
“We were sincere from the start, we went forward, pressing. We had the perfect match. Everyone in the squad can play and I’m happy.
“We had a good game, even with the changes, and that’s what matters for us. We deserved to reach the quarter-finals.
“Tactically we had the match we hoped for, and ultimately it’s the players who win games. That’s the key. We have belief in what we do.
“It’is true that we’ve had some bad times in the League and Copa, but that’s part of football. It’s difficult to always maintain your level.
“You have to accept those bad times and keep working hard. You can’t always win everything. We’ll try to play the same as we did here against Eibar.”
The La Liga champions will play away to Eibar this weekend, as they keep their pace to remain at the top part of the league table.
