1. Buhari, Saudi Crown Prince meet, agree to establish Nigeria–Saudi Council

President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted an invitation from the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, for the establishment of a Nigeria-Saudi Council aimed at promoting investments and enhancing relations between both countries. This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu. The council would be made up of government officials and business leaders from both countries and to focus on: economic growth and development, investments in oil and non-oil sectors, and security cooperation. 2. Buhari’s private trip to London should be the least of Nigerians’ worries —APC Governors

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governors under the aegis of Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) have knocked critics of President Muhammadu Buhari’s two-week private trip to London, UK. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated that the visit should be the least of the worries for Nigerians. 3. OPI: Army makes clarifications, says any form of Identification is okay

The Nigerian Army on Thursday threw more light on Operation Positive Identification starting today, Friday, saying any form of identification was okay. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai stated this when he appeared before the House Committee on Army, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari was aware of the operation. Buratai was represented in the committee by the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Maj-Gen Usman Muhammed. Read more

4. KOGI GUBER: PDP alleges plan by INEC, APC to disqualify Wada

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to disqualify its candidate in November 16 governorship election in Kogi State, Engineer Musa Wada. The PDP made the accusation through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, during a media briefing in Abuja, adding that the plot to delist Wada was in a bid to make Governor Yahaya Bello, who is the governorship candidate of the APC, to become a sole candidate. According to him, INEC and APC’s plot was to alter INEC’s Monitoring Report. Read more

6. ASUU shelves planned strike over IPPIS enrollment

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its proposed strike over Federal Government’s directive to enroll its members into the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS). President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered that federal government employees not captured on the IPPIS platform by 31st Oct. 2019 would no longer receive their salaries. Read more

7. Reps committee divided over Operation Positive Identification

Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Army were Thursday divided over the Nigerian Army Operation Positive Identification starting today, Friday November 1 after the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai appeared before them to make clarifications on the operation. Buratai, who defended the operation, was represented by Major General Usman Mohammed, the Chief of Civil Military Relations. Ripples Nigeria had reported how the House had on Tuesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the operation, saying it violated human rights. Read more

8. KOGI, BAYELSA GUBER: Will results be electronically transmitted? INEC chairman speaks

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, has revealed that the commission would transmit all results manually during the November 16 governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states. 9. Makinde orders suspension of N67bn road project approved by Ajimobi

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has issued a ‘stop work’ order on the construction of the Ibadan circular road project which was awarded in May 2017 by the Abiola Ajimobi administration. The 32-kilometre road, meant to connect the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to the Ibadan/Ife expressway, costs a total of N67 billion. Read more

10. Following rescue of 9 abducted Kano children from Onitsha, Ganduje calls for death penalty for kidnappers

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has ordered the immediate amendment of the penal code to death penalty for kidnappers in the state. The governor gave this order during the inauguration of a 16-man committee of inquiry on 9 children recently kidnapped in the state. Earlier in the month, the police arrested some suspects in connection with the kidnap of the Kano-born children who were sold off in Onitsha, Anambra state. Read more
