COVID-19: Italy’s death toll climbs to 30,000, as China records 1 new infection, 15 new asymptomatic cases

Health authorities in Italy have recorded no fewer than 30,201 deaths due to the novel COVID-19 disease, after an increase of 240, the Civil Protection Agency reported on Friday.

Italy now becomes the third country in the world to record 30,201 deaths from the deadly COVID-19 disease, reporting 243 new fatalities compared with a daily tally of 274 the day before.

Meanwhile, China reported one new COVID-19 case at the end of Friday, unchanged from the day before, according to data from the national health authority showed on Saturday.

One new imported case was recorded on May 8, the National Health Commission said in a statement.

The commission also reported 15 new asymptomatic cases for Friday, versus 16 the previous day.

China’s total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 82,887, although 78,000 cases have recovered, while the official death toll remains unchanged at 4,633.
