The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Saturday February 18 as date to conclude the remaining elections in Etche and Omuma local government areas of Rivers State.

This was contained in a statement released by INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, on Tuesday.

The REC said the election is to fill the Etche Constituency II seat in the House of Assembly and Etche/Omuma seat in the House of Representatives.

According to the statement, the exercise will take place in 147 polling units and 19 registration areas in Etche and one polling unit (Umuogba Community I) in Omuma.

Federal and state legislative elections in 2015 were annulled by court, INEC then chose March 19, 2016, for re-run polls. The election was later declared inconclusive following bloody violence.

December 10, 2016, was again slated for the re-run election, while amidst all forms of electoral violence it was concluded in some places, the election was however inconclusive in Etche and part of Omuma areas of the state.

This mandated the repeat of election in these places which is now fixed for the coming Saturday.
