Third Mainland Bridge to be closed after Sallah Holidays

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said an Uber passenger, Princewill David, who was rescued from the Lagoon after jumping at the Third Mainland Bridge, did so because he wanted to escape Justice after allegedly killing his girlfriend.

It would be recalled that David had reportedly left his residence located at Tajudeen Balogun Street, in the Igando area of Lagod on February 27 after booking an Uber taxi to the Lekki area of the state.

However, on getting to the Third Mainland Bridge around 12am, he reportedly asked the driver to stop to allow him to urinate. The driver, sensing trouble, however drove to where some personnel of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were stationed on the bridge to alert them.

David was said to have jumped inside the Lagoon before the driver could inform the policemen stationed at the spot.

Luckily, David landed on some floating logs of wood underneath the bridge and was later rescued by the RRS personnel, the Marine Police Unit and some local divers.

Speaking on the incident on Thursday while parading some suspected criminals, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, said that David had an altercation with his yet-to-be-identified girlfriend and allegedly killed her in the process.

According to the CP, David booked the Uber and asked the driver to go through the Third Mainland Bridge and alighted at a point and jumped into the lagoon so as to escape prosecution for the crime.

“He had an altercation with his girlfriend and killed her in a hotel and went to jump into the lagoon to escape justice for the crime he committed”, Odumosu said.
