Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos believes that his side are still in the reckoning for the La Liga title, after their 3-1 derby win over rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

The win moves Real Madrid ahead of Atletico into second place in La Liga, five points behind leaders Barcelona, who play Athletico Bilbao on Sunday night.

“We fulfilled our objective today, to recover our position in the table,” Ramos told reporters after the game.

“We have reduced the lead of the leaders and now we see how they do.

“The league is still there to be fought for.”

Real Madrid face Barcelona in league and cup action before the end of the month, and Ramos believes that they can cause problems for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

“The league motivates us and we want to continue to fight for it and make life difficult for Barcelona,” he added.
