D’Tigers beaten again at FIBA World Cup, lose 81-94 to Argentina

Nigeria men’s Basketball team, D’Tigers were again on the losing side in their campaign at the FIBA World Cup in China.

Having lost their opening game against Russia last weekend, the Nigerian team are walking a tightrope as they were beaten 94-81 by Argentina in their second group match on Monday.

Jordan Nwora, whose ankle has been confirmed tweaked after the game, only shot 29% from the field making 4/14 shots to finish with 12 points, while Al-Farouk Aminu shot 17% to score a dismal 3 points in 22 minutes of action.

Josh Okogie was Nigeria’s top performer making 6/11 field goals including a hundred per cent from beyond the arc as he finished with 18 points.

Head coach Alex Nwora named Benjamin Uzoh, Okogie, Nwora, Aminu and Ike Diogu in an unchanged line-up from the previous game squad that lost to Russia.

Nigeria lost the first quarter 28-17 as they struggled to match the Argentines, but rallied back to level at 43-43 by the end of the first half having won the second quarter convincingly.

But the third quarter saw D’Tigers, who became the very first team to qualify for the mundial, trail 61-72, as they continued to struggle and eventually lost the game 81-94.

D’Tigers will face Korea in their last Group B match on Wednesday, September 3, at the Wuhan Sports Centre.
