Owner of Daura torture home moved to police headquarters in Katsina

Owner of the spiritual rehabilitation centre recently uncovered by the police in Daura, Katsina State, Bello Umar, has been moved from Daura to the headquarters of the state police command for further interrogation.

The police had on Monday shut down the Islamic home after they rescued children and youths suspected to have been subjected to abuse, sexual assault, and serious torture.

The 78-year- old cleric who ran the home was seen at the CID headquarters on Tuesday morning.

The Katsina Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, said on Tuesday the rescued inmates had been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Over 60 inmates who were in dehumanising condition were rescued from the rehabilitation home which Bello has been running for about 40 years.

It houses people perceived to be outlaws from society.
